M42 Orion Nebula (50% resized)


Date: 21 Septmeber 2004

Telescope: Vixen R200SS 8f4 Newtonian on Gemini G-41 mount

Guiding: ST-4 Autoguider with Celestron C80, 80mm F11 refractor on side-by-side plate.

Camera: Modified Canon EOS-10D with UV/IR blocker replaced with Astrodon Luminance filter, Baader/Celestron Coma Corrector, IDAS LPS

Location: Tai Mei Tuk, Hong Kong

Exposure: 5 x 10mins ISO400 RAW

                 1 x 1mins ISO400 RAW for the core of M42 was overlaid with layer-mask in Photoshop.

Software: The 10D in manual (bulb) mode was controlled by DSLR V3.0 during acquisition, image processed by IRIS v4.18  and final brightness adjustment, layer-masked and noise-filtered in Photoshop.

Comment: I wanted to shoot more, but the batteries only lasted one hour!
